Safety Tips

Work Zone Awareness

Work Zone Awareness Week is April 17-21, 2023 — While it can slow you down from reaching your destination, road work is necessary, as it helps keep our roads in working order.

If you see signs on your commute warning of upcoming road work delays, take note and plan an alternative route so you can avoid the mess. You don’t always know it’s coming up, so we’ve got some tips to help you through the jungle of road work!

Keep your eyes on the road

You should always keep your eyes on the road, but it’s even more important in work zones. Be aware of all signage throughout work zones that can indicate reduced speeds, lane changes, and other important information. Avoid distractions such as your cellphone, eating, drinking, the radio, GPS, and conversing with your passengers.

Slow Down

Work Zone Awareness means being aware of lane closures, traffic pattern shifts, and reduced speeds are common in work zones. Make sure to slow down when entering a work zone and keep an eye out for road workers.

Move Into The Open Lane

When you approach lane closures, move into the open lane as soon as possible. Pay close attention to vehicles around you that could be in your blind spot.

Final thoughts

Yes, coming up on road work can make your mood a little salty, but try to let your anger go and remember that the people working on our roads are on the job! Be safe, cautious, and courteous as you move through their work zone safely. To learn more about National Work Zone Awareness Week, visit the NWZAW.
