Get Disaster Preparedness — Each September, National Preparedness Month is recognized to help people prepare for natural and unnatural disasters.
Reduce the severity, impact, and consequences of disasters on people, property, and resources by being prepared. In fact, disaster preparedness can save lives, quicken recovery, and reduce fears and uncertainties. Some reasons why disaster preparedness is crucial are:
Talk to your family and friends about how you will communicate before, during, and after a disaster.
Gather supplies that will last several days after a disaster for everyone who lives in your home. Remember to consider the needs specific to each person or pet in case you have to evacuate quickly. Your disaster preparedness kit should contain everything you need to survive for at least several days.
Limit the impacts that disasters have on you and your family by learning the risk of disasters in your area and checking your insurance coverage. Learn how to make your home stronger in the face of storms and other common hazards and act fast if you receive a local warning or alert.
Involve your kids in at least some of the planning process, depending on their age and maturity. Teach them how to prepare for emergencies and what to do in case they are separated. Finally, they can feel reassured by getting information about how to get involved and having a place at the table, so to speak.
“Be prepared” didn’t become a scout motto for no reason, right? Get a list of actions that you can take to become prepared for the worst from the link below. We don’t like to think about bad things happening, but we see that they do happen every day, so please learn how to protect yourself and your family. Be safe out there!
