April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month: Stay Focused on the Road – At Action Resource Management (A.R.M.), we take road safety seriously. Every April, we join the nation in observing Distracted Driving Awareness Month to shine a spotlight on the dangers of distracted driving and encourage safer habits behind the wheel.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), distracted driving claimed 3,522 lives in 2021 alone. Distractions like texting, eating, or even daydreaming can compromise not only your safety but also the well-being of passengers, pedestrians, and other drivers. It’s a reminder that every decision we make behind the wheel has the potential to save—or cost—a life.

This year, we want to emphasize one key message: “Put the phone down.” Texting while driving is one of the most dangerous distractions, as it takes your eyes off the road for an average of five seconds. At 55 mph, that’s like driving the length of a football field blindfolded.

In support of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, A.R.M. encourages everyone to adopt the following safe driving habits:

• Use “Do Not Disturb” mode or a designated driving app to silence notifications.
• Set GPS routes before hitting the road.
• Keep your hands free of food, drinks, and gadgets.
• Educate young drivers in your family about the risks of distracted driving.
